The Fujairah Photography Award closes its 7th edition and steadily strengthens its standing as a leading visual hub in the UAE
The Fujairah Photography Award concluded its 7th edition on Saturday evening, hosted by the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority at its Art House, with a remarkable turnout of photography and visual arts enthusiasts, capping four days brimming with creativity and knowledge, under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah.
The closing day featured a special art workshop entitled “From Moment to Memory: The Art of Family Photography” presented by the Australian global photographer Yazan Omar, who underscored the vital role of family photography as a cornerstone for preserving family identity and documenting the memory of society. He delved into the defining elements of this genre of photography, its human depth, and its relevance in a time of rapid transformations, emphasizing that the lack of documentation may turn cherished moments into lasting regrets in the wake of loss, migration, or separation.
The workshop presenter noted that family photography will endure, even in an age of rapid technological progress, yet the dominance of smartphones may diminish its professional presence. That’s why the photographers should broaden their practice and devise new approaches to reclaim the prestige of professional photography, emphasizing the significance of revitalizing this art through contemporary professional methods that keep pace with the current advancements.
On the closing day, visual exhibitions showcasing the works of national and international photographers continued on the sidelines of the events, alongside heritage activities and traditional cuisine, which together crafted a holistic cultural experience, warmly received by visitors.
Mr. Nasser Al Yamahi, CEO of the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority and General Supervisor of the award, emphasized that the award is steadily reinforcing its standing as an inspiring artistic hub that elevates the visual landscape in the UAE, remarking that it “was born strong and has remained so” owing to the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, the dedicated oversight of His Highness the Crown Prince of Fujairah, and the unwavering support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Rashid bin Hamad Al-Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority.
Mr. Nasser Al Yamahi added that the 7th edition was a resounding success on all fronts, marked by wide engagement and notable media momentum, evolving into a true “photo festival” that celebrates photographers and their creations. Mr. Al Yamahi extended his gratitude the organizing committees, partners, and volunteers, affirming the award’s aspiration for a more exceptional, diverse, and expansive eighth edition, supported by plans to promote the winning works within the UAE and abroad.
